Rangers did not have the best start to their life back in the Premiership but things have improved of late. The Gers now look in control of the second spot in the table but are far far behind Celtic in the race for the title. There is a monumental gap between the quality of the two sides now and Warburton has to close the gap as soon as possible if Rangers have to come close to the title next season. There are a lot of areas those needs severe improvements which is why we expect Warburton to stay active during January.
Rangers have been hit by a severe injury crisis in midfield this campaign. One injury that hit them the worst was Nico Kranjcar. The experienced Croat was brought in to install creativity into the side but now that he is out for the rest of the season, Rangers are missing creativity which has let them down so often this season.
Warburton has identified the weakness and is looking to sign Jon Toral on loan from Arsenal to replace Kranjcar’s creativity as per reports.
Toral, a Spanish attacking midfielder, has graduated from the famed academy of Barcelona, La Masia before moving to Arsenal back in 2014 but he is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners. The 21-year-old got valuable first-team experience at Brentford and Birmingham City priorly on loan and is currently on loan at La Liga side Granada. However, the move has hardly been a pleasant one for the Spaniard.
Toral has played just six games for Granada this season while on loan. From 349 minutes of first-team action, he has just found the back of the net once and is yet to make a single assist. Neither Arsenal nor Granada should mind cutting the youngster’s loan spell short which means that Rangers have a decent chance of landing their man.
The Daily Record claims that Warburton has contacted Manchester City assistant coach who was formerly the skipper of Arsenal Mikel Arteta to help convince the player of the benefits of a move to Ibrox.
Rangers badly need creativity in their side and even though Toral has failed to hit the heights in La Liga, he could prove to be an invaluable addition to Rangers. He is a proven success in English Championship which is much similar to Premiership in terms of intensity of the game. A loan deal for the Spaniard makes the perfect sense.
