In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United are hoping to cash in on Eric Bailly, who is currently playing on loan at Olympique Marseille. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are hoping to sell the Ivory Coast defender when he returns from his loan spell at the end of this campaign.

Bailly’s Decent Loan Spell In French Football This Season
Bailly is having a solid loan spell at Marseille as he has produced a string of impressive performances at the centre of their backline. The 29-year-old has made 19 appearances for the French club but is still waiting to score a goal for them during this campaign across all fronts.
The Bingerville-born talent has been a dominant presence on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 85.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Man United is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to cash in on him in this off-season rather than risk losing him for free next year.
Manchester United Are Hoping To Cash In On Bailly: Good Move For Both Parties?
Bailly can be a solid defender at the back when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. The Ivory Coast sensation doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer of the ball as well.
At 29, Bailly has still got a lot of football left in him, so it is only fair to the player if Man United cash in on him in this off-season. The Red Devils can use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
Bailly can benefit from earning regular first-team opportunities elsewhere as Erik ten Hag is currently well-stocked in the defensive department. All in all, Bailey’s permanent departure from the Theatre of Dreams will be a good move for both the player and the Mancunian club later this year.
