In a recent report, Foot Mercato claimed that Arsenal are serious about landing Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha. It has been revealed that the Gunners are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Ivory Coast sensation.
Zaha’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Zaha is having a decent campaign at Selhurst Park as he has put in a series of productive displays in the final third. The 30-year-old has registered six goals and three assists in 25 matches for the Eagles this season on all fronts.
The Abidjan-born talent has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.4 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the final third after making 81.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for the Gunners to move in for him when he becomes a free agent later this year.
Is Zaha A Good Option For Arsenal?
Zaha is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He is proficient at earning penalties and has got the ability to score and create some important goals for his side. Zaha mainly functions as a left-sided wide player but can also fill in on the right flank or as a centre-forward if his manager asks him to do so.
However, the Ivory Coast international has to find a way to improve his productivity in front of the opponent’s goal if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he would be a great signing for the Gunners to pull off this summer.
We can expect Zaha to bring more goals and creativity to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s frontline. At 30, he has still got a handful of years left in his locker to play at his best. Hence, Zaha could prove to be a decent, short-term option for the North London club to consider during this summer transfer period.
