In a recent report, The Times revealed that Chelsea are facing backlash from fans if the club’s chairman and co-owner Todd Boehly decides to go with a move to Earl’s Court from Stamford Bridge later this year. It is understood that the Blues are ‘exploring options’ on the stadium with their supporters concerned about a potential move to Earl’s Court in the future.
Chelsea are currently playing their home matches at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are yet to make a decision on their future stadium plans with the club trying to fully establish the time and cost of all the possibilities before making a decision.
However, a move to Earl’s Court would no doubt anger a lot of their fans as Stamford Bridge is a place rich in history and tradition. Still, the Blues could be inclined to build a new stadium in Earl’s Court to boost their finances and facilities in the long run.
However, Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has shown in the recent past that he is eager to listen to the club’s supporters before making a major decision that could influence the long-term future of the West London club.
How Have Chelsea Fared This Season?
As of 30 March 2023, Chelsea find themselves in tenth place of the Premier League table, having collected just 38 points in 27 matches. The Blues are still 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur heading into the final stretch of this campaign.
Graham Potter has struggled to build an identity at Stamford Bridge so far and would need more time before he can get the best out of his Chelsea players.
Still, Potter deserves credit for leading the West London club to the quarterfinal stage of the UEFA Champions League where they are now facing a tie against Real Madrid over two legs.
The Blues have also got some important fixtures coming up in the league as they have got back-to-back home games against Aston Villa and Liverpool. They will also have to travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers after this international break.
A lot of focus will now be on Boehly as he looks to steer the London club in the right direction. However, with results not going their way, a future move to Earl’s Court could anger the Chelsea fans even more, especially if Boehly fails to convince them about such a big change over the summer.
