In a recent report, The Daily Mirror mentioned Liverpool are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka. It has been claimed that the Reds could face competition in the form of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the French centre-back who is set to become a free agent in the summer.
Ndicka’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season
Ndicka is having a decent campaign at Frankfurt as he has produced a series of dominant performances at the heart of their defence. The 23-year-old has scored one goal and secured one assist in 35 matches for the German club this season across all fronts.
The Paris-born talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 5.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 85.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Ndicka is under contract at the German club until the end of this campaign. Thus, the Reds could potentially land him on a free transfer later this year.
What Will Ndicka Bring To Liverpool?
Ndicka is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger quickly to make a few important interceptions at the back. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his strong 1.92m frame to dominate the opposition in the air.
The French talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well but might need to settle into the physicality and high intensity of English football.
We can expect Ndicka to bring more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp‘s defence and would serve as an ideal replacement for Joe Gomez, who has been quite underwhelming at the Merseyside club this season.
At 23, Ndicka has his best years ahead of him and could prove himself to be a world-class defender under the expert stewardship of Klopp at Anfield in the coming seasons. All in all, the Reds would be wise to offer him a chance to shine in the Premier League when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
