In a recent report, Tuttosport claimed that Manchester City are facing stiff competition for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini. It has been revealed that the Mancunian outfit will have to rival Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Italian centre-back.
Scalvini’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Scalvini is having a solid campaign in Serie A as he has put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of Atalanta’s backline. The Italian sensation has found the back of the net twice and earned one assist in 23 matches for his current club this season across various competitions.
The 19-year-old has been a rock at the back and deserves a pat on the back for averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game in Serie A. He has also taken care of the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 80.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Scalvini is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027. Hence, it would be difficult for Man City to arrange a move for him for a cut-price fee in this off-season. However, it makes sense for the Mancunian club to strengthen their options for the future by bringing the Italian to the Etihad Stadium.
Is Scalvini A Good Fit For Manchester City?
Scalvini is a solid tackler of the ball and can earn the ball back for his team when defending inside his half. He is usually quick to spot the danger and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Italian sensation is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.
Scalvini has what it takes to enhance the overall quality of Pep Guardiola‘s defence and help Man City continue to dominate English football over the next few years.
At 19, the Italian whizkid has the potential to become a future star in the Premier League as long as he can find a way to cope with the physical side of football in England. With all things considered, Scalvini was a decent fit for the Mancunian side in the long run as he is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future.
