In a recent interview with Radio 1 (via Tuttomercatoweb), Lazio president Claudio Lolito recalled the absurd interaction he had with AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho recently. On his altercation with the Portuguese head coach, Lolito said,
“I saw a Roma player completely naked in the corridor and I did not like that. Mourinho yelled at me, I thought he didn’t know I was the president of Lazio and I pointed that out. I did not tell him to leave, we did not argue because I don’t argue.”
Claudio Lolito is the current president of Lazio and had the pleasure of watching his club secure a narrow 1-0 win over AS Roma recently. A goal from Mattia Zaccagni was enough to give Lazio all three points in the Derby della Capitale last weekend.
However, the contest was full of drama with a total of three players getting sent off by the referee. Roger Ibanez, Bryan Cristante and Adam Marusic were all given their marching orders that day.
Lazio’s Record In Serie A So Far
As of 21 March 2023, Lazio are sitting in second place in the Serie A standings and find themselves a massive 19 points behind the league leaders, Napoli, with 11 matches left to be played this season. They have banged in 42 goals and shipped in 19 goals in the league so far and have a positive goal difference of 23 which will bode well for them going into the final stretch of this campaign.
The Italian club’s 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s men in the derby has put them in a really good position to secure a top-four place at the end of this campaign. Mattia Zaccagni’s 65th minute was enough to make a difference between the two sides that day.
There is no denying that Lolito’s altercation with Mourinho was absurd but Lazio fans have every reason to be optimistic about their club’s chances of ending this season in a positive fashion by securing UEFA Champions League football next season.
However, it remains to be seen whether Lolito can bring success to the Italian club after they won their last trophy back in 2020.
