In a recent interview (via BBC Sport’s Simon Stone), Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola shared a bizarre joke about Julia Roberts after her visit to Old Trafford back in 2016. Guardiola labeled Roberts as one of his heroes but joked that even winning the UEFA Champions League will be a failure because of the actress’ fondness for Manchester United.
The Man City boss said,
“I have three heroes in life, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Julia Roberts. JR came to Manchester. She didn’t come to see us. Even if I win the CL, it will be a failure because of the disappointment of Julia Roberts going to United.”
Is Julia Roberts A Manchester United Fan?
Julia Roberts is an award-winning American actress who is famous for her leading roles in films across all genres. She is one of the most successful and accomplished performers in Hollywood history.
Roberts has previously visited Old Trafford in 2016 to attend Man United’s clash against West Ham United. She is a big supporter of the Red Devils. Even her three children, Patricia, Phinnaeus, both 14, and Henry, 11, are huge Man United supporters. They have all played with Wayne Rooney’s children following the game versus West Ham that day.
Roberts has also attended many pre-season games of Man United in the United States of America.
Pep Guardiola: Man City Record
Pep Guardiola has enjoyed a successful managerial spell at Man City. The Spanish head coach has got a terrific record at the Mancunian club. As of 15 March 2023, he has taken charge of 394 matches for Man City, picking up 2.32 points per game for them so far.
Guardiola has managed to lead his team to four Premier League wins and one FA Cup win during his time at the Etihad Stadium. However, the Spanish tactician is yet to taste success with Man City in the UEFA Champions League which he will be desperate to rectify this season.
Even though Guardiola has joked about a Champions League win as a failure for his side during this campaign, it is clear that Man City mean business in their quest to win the famous European trophy after they recently thrashed RB Leipzig by a 7-0 scoreline.
