In a recent report, AS Roma Live mentioned that West Ham United are facing stiff competition for Lens defender Facundo Medina. It is understood that the Hammers will have to rival Leeds United, Aston Villa and Brighton and Hove Albion in pursuit of the Argentine centre-back.
Medina’s Impressive Form At The Stade Bollaert-Delelis
Medina is having a positive season in French football after putting in a run of solid performances at the centre of Lens’ backline. The Argentine sensation has featured in 26 matches for the French club during this campaign, netting two goals and grabbing four assists in various competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a dominant presence on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 90.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Hammers will do well to win the race for his services at the end of this campaign.
What Will Medina Add To West Ham Boss David Moyes’ Team?
Medina is usually quick to read the danger and can make a few timely interceptions for his side on the defensive end of the field. He can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition attackers and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed. The Argentine defensive ace excels at playing his way out from the back. He is primarily a centre-back but can also serve as a left-back and could be a good addition to West Ham’s squad this summer as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
Medina is good enough to add more quality to David Moyes’ defensive department at the London Stadium. He could rival Angelo Ogbonna, Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Thilo Kehrer for a regular starting spot at the East London club over the next few seasons.
