In a recent print edition, The Sunday Mirror (12/02, p70) stated that Newcastle United are in the running for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. It is believed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to sign the Ecuador sensation from the Seagulls.
Caicedo’s Impressive Run Of Form In Premier League Football
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a good run of form for Brighton this season and has been responsible for putting in several dominant displays for them at the centre of the park. Caicedo has found the back of the net once and picked up one assist in 27 appearances for his current club during this campaign across multiple competitions.
The Santo Domingo-born sensation has been a reliable performer for the Seagulls as he is averaging 3.0 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Premier League football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the American Express Community Stadium is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Newcastle could find it difficult to arrange a move for him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Get Caicedo On Board In The Summer?
Caicedo is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side in the middle of the park. He usually clears his lines when required and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opposition half.
The Ecuador talent can strike the ball with power from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so.
We can expect Caicedo to add more bite and steel to Newcastle‘s midfield department. He will also offer some healthy competition for Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Joelinton at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.
At 21, Caicedo has the potential to become a future star in English football and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Tyneside club if Howe can find a way to snap him up during the summer transfer window.
Howe could also be the ideal man to unlock the best out of Caicedo at Newcastle over the next few years. Therefore, the Magpies should try everything they can to get him on board soon.
