In a recent segment with CaughtOffside, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Barcelona are among several clubs hoping to land Borussia Monchengladbach ace Marcus Thuram. Romano said,
“There are really many clubs interested in Marcus Thuram. Barcelona, Inter but especially 2-3 Premier League clubs. It’s open and all of them are informed on the conditions of the deal, while Bayern are currently focused on different targets despite reports on Thuram.”
Thuram’s Impressive Record At The Borussia-Park This Season
Thuram is having a brilliant campaign at Monchengladbach after putting in several productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The French sensation has featured in 24 matches for the German club this season, netting 14 goals and picking up four assists in the process across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself in the final third as he is averaging 3.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he needs to distribute possession a bit better in the opposition half based on his average of 74.1% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
Thuram is under contract at Borussia-Park until the end of this campaign. Hence, Barcelona could land him on a free transfer in the summer.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Move In For Thuram?
Thuram is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the offensive end of the field. He has got the vision to orchestrate a few meaningful chances for his teammates up top. Thuram is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if required.
The French talent has proven his worth as a prolific finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
At the moment, Thuram is playing some of the best football of his playing career and could prove himself to be an important player in Xavi’s match-day squad if Barcelona decide to sign him when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
At 25, Thuram is about to enter his prime and could help the Catalan giants challenge for some top honours in the coming seasons. He is good enough to add some decent competition for Robert Lewandowski at the Nou Camp. Thus, Barca should consider moving in for him by offering him a chance to shine in Catalunya next season.
