In a recent report, The Sun stated that Newcastle United are eyeing a summer move for Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney. It is understood that the Magpies are hoping to land the Scottish talent during the summer transfer window.
Tierney’s Sporadic Role In North London This Season
Tierney has been a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad this season and has been responsible for putting in a few decent displays for Arsenal on the left flank. The Scottish left-back has found the back of the net once and earned one assist in 25 matches for the Gunners during this campaign across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.8 clearances per game in Premier League football. However, he has distributed the ball relatively well after making 76.7% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Tierney’s current deal at the Emirates Stadium is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Newcastle might struggle to land him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Tierney is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a decent crosser of the ball. Tierney is primarily a left-back but can also play as a central defender or as a left-sided wide player if his manager asks him to do so. However, he has to find a way to be more consistent on the left flank.
Newcastle can definitely use someone of the Scotsman’s skillset as they look to challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. We can expect Tierney to add more depth to Eddie Howe‘s match-day squad and help the Tyneside outfit compete for some major honours in the future. He knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time settling into life at Newcastle.
The Douglas-born talent has been playing a sporadic role for Arsenal of late as he has often found himself behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order. However, Howe has got the luxury to offer him a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park despite Dan Burn’s recent performances as a makeshift left-back.
