In a recent interview with teamTALK, renowned journalist Ben Jacobs stated that West Ham United wanted to sign Manchester United ace Anthony Martial. Jacobs said,
“Anthony Martial is another one to watch. West Ham have really liked the player in the past and a Monaco return is not unthinkable either. It’s a shame really because everyone at Manchester United likes Martial. But fitness has been a problem and that might well provoke a move.”
Martial’s Recent Form At Old Trafford
The 24-year-old is having a stop-start season at the Mancunian club as he has struggled to be consistent with his goal-scoring in the final third. Martial has found the back of the net six times and earned a couple of assists in 14 appearances for the Red Devils during this campaign across various competitions.
The former Monaco talent has struggled to be consistent with his offensive contributions based on his average of 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. Still, he has done well to complete 83.3% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should West Ham United Go Back In For Martial In The Summer?
Martial can still be a great dribbler with the ball when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the final third and can even strike the ball with venom and precision from long range. The France international mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player if his manager asks him to do so.
However, Martial is currently behind Wout Weghorst and Marcus Rashford in Man United’s pecking order. Therefore, the French sensation could be open to sealing a move to a club like West Ham where he will be guaranteed regular playing time in the coming seasons.
Martial is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at the London Stadium. He could even help the Hammers push for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years.
With all things considered, West Ham should only focus on going back in for Martial if they can avoid getting relegated from the English top flight later this year. He has what it takes to be a success story at the East London club as long as he gets enough time to settle into their brand of football in the future.
