Manchester United have brought back the superstardom era after a couple of failed attempts at stabilising the club with the appointments of David Moyes and Van Gaal. Both can be branded as failures and the stability they were hoping for after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, was not attained.
Jose Mourinho took over a Manchester United squad which has bits and pieces of the ideology and personnel that Moyes and Van Gaal later had tried to form into a successful project. There is an amalgamation of players who aren’t necessarily suited to each other’s style of play and that fact has obviously not gone under Mourinho’s radar. While he did not make drastic changes the moment he came in, many players knew that it might be the time to move on and we believe, the January window and the subsequent summer window will see a lot of departures from the bloated United squad and yet more arrivals.
Jose Mourinho went for the jugular with the world-record signing of Paul Pogba and while it was a rocky start, things have settled down to an extent now. The utilisation of a 3-man midfield has seen Pogba given the freedom to express himself and it points to the way things will be when it comes to United’s midfield issues.
But it is a known fact that Mourinho has traditionally preferred tall and physical midfielders, who can impose themselves on the game. For him, height has always been a factor and the ability of a player aligned with his physique and imposing nature are important traits he looks for.
Hence, the claim by Atalanta’s wonderkid – Frack Kessie’s agent that United are the latest club to have joined the race for the much-coveted youngster is believable.
Kessie was born on December 19th, 1996 in Ouragahio, Ivory Coast and started his career with Stella Club in his home nation, playing just a single season before Atalanta brought him to Italy. He was immediately sent on loan to Serie B side Cesena, where he played a total of 2735 minutes, making 37 appearances and scoring 4 goals. Kessie can also boast an impressive disciplinary record despite his style of play, with just 5 bookings and no dismissals in his debut season in Italian football.
His sheer presence along with technical ability is exceptional at such an age and given time he has the potential to develop into one of the world’s best midfielder. With Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger surely leaving and Fellaini’s future not carved in stone at the club, Kessie is looking like the way forward for the Red Devils.
