In a recent report, Il Mattino revealed that Manchester United are hoping to land Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are showing interest in recruiting the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen’s Excellent Record In Italian Football This Season
Osimhen has been enjoying the form of his life at the Naples club as he has put in a lot of productive performances as the focal point of their attack. The Nigerian sensation has featured in 21 matches for his current employers this season, netting 17 goals and grabbing four assists in the process across various competitions.
The 24-year-old has led the line well for Napoli by averaging 4.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A football. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the final third after completing only 72.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored)
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Red Devils to lure Osimhen to Old Trafford at the end of this campaign.
Is Osimhen A Good Fit For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Osimhen excels at generating space for himself to get a few shot attempts at goal. He can create some decent openings for others around him on the offensive end of the field. The Nigerian sensation can also make some powerful runs with the ball in behind the opposition backline. Standing at 1.86m, he can be a real threat in the air but needs to work on improving his link-up play up top if he wants to taste more success at the highest level.
Still, Osimhen ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Man United boss Erik ten Hag demands from his forwards. He is good enough to be a success story at Old Trafford and would serve as an upgrade over Wout Weghorst at the Mancunian club.
At 24, Osimhen has got a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve his overall game with each season. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
With all things considered, Osimhen would be a great fit for ten Hag’s style of play at the Theatre of Dreams. Hence, the Red Devils should try everything they can to bring him to English football during the summer transfer window.
