In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Manchester City are eyeing a move for Leicester City star James Maddison. It has been stated that Manchester City are showing interest in securing the services of the England international as they look to strengthen their squad this year.
Maddison’s Impressive Numbers In English Football This Season
Maddison is experiencing a tough season at the King Power Stadium but has produced some influential displays for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the final third. The English sensation has banged in seven goals and secured four assists in 16 matches for the Foxes during this campaign across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a reliable performer for Leicester based on his average of 2.9 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 83.8% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East Midlands club will run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Man City will have a good chance of recruiting him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Snap Maddison Up?
Maddison is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some driving runs with the ball in the opposition’s half. He can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range. Maddison loves to play in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if his manager tells him to do so.
The English talent has got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him in the final third. He is also a tidy passer of the ball and excels at keeping possession moving in tight spaces on the attacking end of the field.
We can expect Maddison to add more goals and creativity to Pep Guardiola‘s attack. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Jack Grealish at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 26, Maddison is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent option for Man City to consider this year. Therefore, the Mancunian giants should focus on snapping the English playmaker up soon as he could help them maintain their dominance in English football and maybe even challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy over the next few years.
