In a recent report from Birmingham Live, it was stated that Aston Villa have gone ahead and submitted an offer of €13.5 million – rising to €15 million, for the services of Real Mallorca attacker Kang In Lee. It is understood that the South Korea international has caught the eye with his performances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which was held in Qatar recently.
Lee’s Impressive Numbers In La Liga So Far This Season
Lee is enjoying a solid campaign with Mallorca at the moment as he has produced a few influential displays at the attacking front for the Spanish outfit. He has featured in 16 matches during this campaign, finding the back of the net on two occasions and securing three assists in the Spanish first division.
The 21-year-old has given a good account of himself in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.4 shots, 1.4 dribbles and 1.7 key passes per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.2% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Kang In Lee is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2025. Hence, the Lions have done well to make an offer in the region of €15 million for the South Korean attacking midfielder.
Should Emery Bring Him To Aston Villa?
Lee is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side when defending inside his half. The attacking midfielder can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from a long range and he has got the vision to split the opposition’s defence by making some decisive passes in the final third. He mainly functions in the advanced attacking midfield position but remains versatile to feature as a wide player in both the flanks and even as a centre forward when required.
We can expect him to add more quality to Unai Emery’s attack and could help the Villans challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Lee could be a decent replacement for Phillipe Coutinho as the Brazilian playmaker has not been productive in the final third, being out of form for the majority of the season. Thus, Emery has been wise in making an offer and should do everything he is capable of to finalise the deal before the end of this month.
