According to a recent report from Chronicle Live, it was stated that Newcastle United are showing keen interest in signing Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer next summer. It is understood that the German outfit are trying to convince the 18-year-old to sign a new contract with its expiry at the end of the current season but Eddie Howe remains hopeful of luring him to Tyneside in the summer.
Moukoko’s Impressive Numbers For Borussia Dortmund So Far This Season
Moukoko has had a brilliant start to this campaign as he has produced some impressive displays down the middle of the attacking third. He has managed to find the back of the net on six occasions and created four assists over twenty appearances for the German outfit across all fronts.
The German sensation has been consistent and reliable in the final third after averaging 0.9 tackles, 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution after only completing 71.2 % of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Is He A Good Long-Term Option For Newcastle United?
Moukoko is a really hard worker on and off the pitch, he has the ability to track back on defence and contribute heavily when on the defensive end as he doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle despite being an attacker. Furthermore, he can make some dangerous runs down the middle being a menace for his markers in and out of the penalty box. He remains an attacking threat as he can find the back of the net with ease, remaining calm and composed when isolated against the opponent’s shot-stopper.
The youngster can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from a long distance often being on the mark. At 18, he has shown to have immense potential in becoming one of the best strikers in Europe if he continues developing his overall game and finds a way to improve his link-up play in the final third.
Eddie Howe has done well to identify him as he can prove to be an excellent long-term option for the Magpies in the number nine position. However, if Dortmund convince him into signing a contract extension it would deal a huge blow to the Tyneside club. Thus, Howe should make contact with the youngster as soon as he can and try to tempt him into coming to St. James’ Park at the end of this season.
