In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport claimed that Arsenal have made contact with the agent of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are hoping to acquire the services of the Serbian talent.
Milinkovic-Savic’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
The Spain-born sensation has proven himself to be a valuable member of Lazio’s first XI during this campaign. Milinkovic-Savic has found the back of the net five times and grabbed seven assists in 22 appearances for his current club this season on all fronts.
The 27-year-old has given a good account of himself in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 76.6% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Hence, Arsenal would have a good chance of landing him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Get Milinkovic-Savic On Board?
Milinkovic-Savic is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. The Serbian talent doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is a decent playmaker as well in the opponent’s half. The gifted talent is a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position if his manager asks him to do so. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and can complete some encouraging dribbles with the ball from midfield.
We can expect Milinkovic-Savic to add more goals and creativity to Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department at the Emirates Stadium. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the North London club in the coming seasons as long as he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
At 27, Milinkovic-Savic’s best years are ahead of him which makes him an ideal target for the Gunners to pursue next summer. He could even help Arteta’s team compete for some major trophies over the next few years. With all things considered, Arsenal should consider getting Milinkovic-Savic on board when the transfer window reopens during the summer transfer window.
