Mike Phelan has admitted that he is eyeing Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson. The 24-year-old has made a single appearance in the Premier League this season.
Jenkinson recently recovered from a long-term injury. With Hector Bellerin cementing his spot in the starting eleven, it would be very tough for him to break into the first team. The right back is reportedly very frustrated with his lack of game time.
Arsenal are ready to listen to offers for the defender. Hull City’s regular right back Moses Odubajo is set to miss the rest of the season after having two knee injuries while Ahmed Elmohamady will depart in January to take part in the AFCON. Phelan badly needs to strengthen his defence as they have won only one match in their last 16 matches.
Phelan later confirmed the development, “At a push we can fill in with James Weir, but he’s really a midfielder by trade.
“Ideally, we need to add to the squad and I need to have options at right-back.”
