In a recent report, Sky Sports mentioned that Chelsea have launched a move for Borussia Dortmund ace Youssoufa Moukoko. It has been claimed that the Blues have made an offer for the German forward who is likely to leave the German club.
Moukoko’s Decent Numbers In German Football This Season
Moukoko has enjoyed a decent campaign with his current employers as he has managed to put in a handful of productive displays for them in the final third. The German attacker has made 22 appearances for Dortmund this season, finding the back of the net on six occasions and earning six assists in the process on all fronts.
The 18-year-old has caught the eye at times with his contributions on the attacking end of the field based on his average of 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution deep inside the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Signal Iduna Park will expire at the end of this season. Thus, the Blues have a good opportunity of recruiting him on the cheap during this January transfer window.
Is Moukoko A Good Option For Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter?
Moukoko is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
The German talent can even create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third and can make some promising runs with the ball as well. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top.
We can expect Moukoko to add more firepower to Graham Potter‘s frontline at Stamford Bridge. He is good enough to serve as an upgrade over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has struggled to give a good account of himself at the West London club thus far.
At 18, Moukoko has the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday which makes him a great, long-term option for the Blues to consider this month. He has what it takes to help Chelsea challenge for some top honours over the next decade. Thus, Potter should focus on trying everything in his power to get Moukoko on board during this winter transfer period.
