In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Bruno Andrade claimed that Manchester United are keeping a keen eye on Benfica star Enzo Fernandez. It has been revealed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for the Argentina international but could face competition in the form of Chelsea in pursuit of him.

Fernandez’s Impressive Run Of Form For Benfica And Argentina This Season
Fernandez is having a fine campaign in both club and international football after helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar last month. The Benfica midfielder has been involved in 25 matches this season, registering three goals and five assists on all fronts.
The 21-year-old has proven his worth as a consistent performer by averaging 2.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.9 shots and 1.8 key passes per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 89.3% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Fernandez’s current deal with the Portuguese club runs out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Red Devils will have to launch a big offer if they want to lure the Argentine sensation to Old Trafford this year.
What Will Fernandez Bring To Manchester United?
Fernandez is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to engineer some inviting chances in the final third. Fernandez is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if required.
The Argentine talent is currently one of the most promising young midfielders in European football and would be an excellent addition to Erik ten Hag‘s squad this year. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, we can expect Fernandez to bring more bite and steel to Man United‘s midfield department and help the Red Devils challenge for some top honours over the next decade.
Thus, it makes sense for the Mancunian club to go all out in the race to land Fernandez. At 21, he will only get better with each season and would be an excellent signing for Man United to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign.
