In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Real Betis full-back Alex Moreno. It has been stated that the Villans want to acquire the services of the Spanish talent.
Moreno’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
Moreno has enjoyed a decent campaign with Real Betis as he has managed to produce a few impressive performances on the left side of their defence. The 29-year-old has picked up three assists in 17 appearances for the Spanish outfit this season across all competitions.
The Spanish sensation deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.9 clearances, 0.8 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the left flank, based on his pass success rate of 78.6% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to test Real Betis’ resolve by launching a move for him next year.
What Will Moreno Bring To Aston Villa?
Moreno can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition attackers. He can spot the danger well to make a few timely interceptions for his side and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed. The Spanish full-back can create some decent chances for others around him in the final third and can complete some promising runs with the ball out on the wide areas.
However, Moreno needs to add more goals to his game if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Plus, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England. The Spaniard mainly operates as a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if his manager tells him to do so.
At the moment, Moreno is playing at a high level which makes him a good choice for Aston Villa next year. He will bring more quality to Unai Emery‘s defence at Villa Park and could go on to serve as an ideal replacement for Lucas Digne who has struggled to find consistency at the West Midlands club this season.
