Leicester City are seemingly stuck in a rut and are finding it difficult to get out of it. The reigning Champions have failed to figure out a way to handle the pressure and expectations but most importantly they have not been able to balance Champions League football and the domestic League.
Currently, in the 16th position, they are just 3 points off the relegation zone. It is unthinkable that an English Champion might get relegated in the very next season with an almost identical team and the Foxes boast of a stronger team with more options other than the loss of N’Golo Kante. Although, that particular exit has probably caused the most impact.
They are coming off a demoralising loss against Everton and the 4-2 win over Manchester City, which was supposed to kick-start their season, seems like a distant memory. They have won just 1 in the last 9 games and will be handed an opportunity to make it 2 in 10 when they host West Ham United at the King Power on New Year’s Eve.
Ranieri has been tweaking his formation and personnel but nothing seems to have worked till now. In West Ham, they will face a team who have also struggled this season but also they will be in front of a team which has shown that a couple of wins can propel you almost into the Top 10.
It is expected to be an entertaining match with both teams believing they can notch up a win.
PREDICTED LEICESTER CITY XI VS WEST HAM UNITED (4-2-3-1)
DEFENCE
Kasper Schmeichel will be in goal and will look to rediscover his form after recently returning from a hand injury. Danny Simpson will be at right-back and he needs to step up after some underwhelming displays of late. The central defensive pairing of Wes Morgan and Robert Huth have failed to replicate last season’s form and the physically imposing duo need to bring their experience into play against the Hammers. Fuchs will be at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Danny Drinkwater should be getting a start in a double pivot with Amartey alongside him. Mendy has to be introduced slowly and given a run of games but it is unlikely at this moment. Okazaki can start in a No.10 role from where he can provide industry and attacking threat in equal measure.
ATTACK
With Albrighton out of sorts, Musa can line-up on the left flank with Mahrez on the opposite side. Slimani can be the out and out striker in place of the suspended Vardy.
