In a recent report, relevo.com revealed that Real Madrid won’t sign a new striker this January. It is understood that Los Blancos are not willing to invest in a new centre-forward following Karim Benzema’s retirement from international footballer recently.
Real Madrid’s Decent Season In La Liga So Far
The Madrid giants have made a solid start to this campaign but are currently sitting two points behind Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings. A lot of their recent success has been down to the brilliant form of Karim Benzema.
However, the French striker has missed a lot of important games for Los Blancos this season due to injuries. In his absence, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior have stepped up to fill some of the goal-scoring workload for Real Madrid.
Following the World Cup break, Carlo Ancelotti will have to depend on Karim Benzema, Mariano Diaz and Rodrygo to serve as his options for the centre-forward position at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the second half of this campaign.
Are Real Madrid Making The Right Call By Not Recruiting A New Striker This January?
Real Madrid have scored 33 goals in 14 league matches this season which is identical to their rivals, Barcelona’s current record in La Liga. Based on their stats, it seems like the Madrid outfit are performing well in the final third despite Benzema’s recent injury concerns. However, conceding goals have been a problem area for the Madrid outfit this season which they need to address next year.
Los Blancos are probably making the right call by not signing a new striker this winter as they have currently got enough strength in depth on the offensive front.
Ancelotti would have to rely on Karim Benzema to remain fit for most of his team’s matches in the first half of 2023 if Real Madrid are to compete for multiple trophies this season.
However, the Italian tactician will also have Rodrygo, Mariano Diaz and even, Marco Asensio (who can play a makeshift forward) to call upon off the bench when needed. All in all, the Madrid giants would be wise to not go for a new forward but rather save their budget to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad.
However, another injury to Benzema could derail the Spanish club’s chances of retaining their La Liga and UEFA Champions League crown as he remains their primary source for goals along with Vinicius Jr. up top.
