In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones revealed that West Ham United are in a good position to land Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz. Jones said,
“I think West Ham are still in a pretty good position on this one for whenever the time comes to move, but he’s been prepped by a lot of teams this season, like a ridiculous number of teams.”
Diaz’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
Diaz is having a decent campaign at Ewood Park after putting in a run of productive displays as the focal point of Blackburn’s attack. The 23-year-old has banged in ten goals and picked up three assists in 25 matches for the English club this season on all fronts.
The Chile international has given a good account of himself in the final third as he is averaging 2.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball deep inside the opponent’s half after making 76.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Will Ben Brereton Diaz Be A Good Option For West Ham United Head Coach David Moyes?
Diaz excels at creating space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
The 17-time Chile international mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also function as a wide player on either flank if required. He can even create some decent plays for others around him and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. However, the gifted forward needs to find a way to be more consistent with his offensive contributions if he wants to prove his worth in top-flight football.
Diaz is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca at West Ham United. His versatility and knack for scoring goals could make him a useful member of David Moyes‘ match-day squad at the London Stadium.
At 23, the Chilean sensation will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him a great option for the Hammers to consider next year. His current contract with Blackburn will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, West Ham will have a good chance of acquiring Diaz’s services on a cut-price deal when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
