In a recent print edition, O Jogo claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to recruit Sporting CP full-back Pedro Porro. It has been mentioned that Spurs are keeping tabs on the Spanish defender ahead of a potential move in the future.
Porro’s Brilliant Form At The Estádio José Alvalade This Season
Porro is having a great campaign at Sporting as he has been responsible for performing at a high level on the right side of their backline. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net once and picked up nine assists in 19 matches for the Portuguese club this season in various competitions.
The Spaniard has been a positive influence at both ends of the field and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 2.8 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Liga Portugal. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 76.6% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Porro is under contract at the Estádio José Alvalade until the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to arrange a move to sign him next year.
What Will Porro Bring To The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
Porro has established himself as a solid defender at the back as he can time his challenges well to make a few timely interceptions for his team. He usually clears the danger when needed and has got the vision to play a handful of decisive passes in the final third. The Spanish talent can shoot the ball accurately from long range and can make a few driving runs with the ball down the right flank. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical side of English football.
Porro is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at Tottenham. He would serve as an upgrade over Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal as they have both failed to be consistent with his performances at the North London club this season.
We can expect Porro to bring a lot of quality to Antonio Conte’s defence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At 23, he could go on to become one of the best full-backs in European football if the player can improve his all-around game with each season.
With all things considered, Spurs would be wise to engineer a move to lure the Spanish sensation to the English capital this January or at the end of this campaign.
