In a recent interview with Sky Sports Germany, journalist March Behrenbeck mentioned that Manchester United are facing stiff competition for Borussia Dortmund ace Youssoufa Moukoko. It has been claimed that the Red Devils will have to rival Liverpool, Barcelona and Newcastle United in pursuit of the German striker. Behrenbeck said,
“It is clear that a lot of top clubs are enquiring about Moukoko and are keen on him.
“He is available on a free transfer in the summer and is a bargain. We hear that Chelsea are the closest. There have already been negotiations and talks.
“Other clubs on the list are Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Newcastle. But the hottest is Chelsea, the others are not that far yet.”
Moukoko’s Impressive Form In German Football
Moukoko has enjoyed a decent run of form at Signal Iduna Park as he has produced a run of promising displays for the German side in the final third. The 18-year-old has registered six goals and six assists in 23 matches for Borussia Dortmund and the German national team this season across all fronts.
The talented teenager has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the opponent’s half after making 71.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Moukoko A Good Choice For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Moukoko is a decent striker of the ball and can contribute by netting some important goals for his team. He can even create a good chance for his teammate when they are in a more advantageous position than him. The German talent is also quite clever when dribbling with the ball in the final third.
At the moment, Moukoko is on an expiring contract at Borussia Dortmund. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to engineer a cut-price move to sign him this January or on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
At 18, Moukoko has got the potential to become a top player in his position someday. Hence, Man United head coach Erik ten Hag would be wise to arrange a move to bring him to Old Trafford soon. The Dortmund whizkid is already good enough to serve as a crucial member of ten Hag’s squad which makes him a decent choice for the Red Devils to pursue next year.
