In a recent report, ESPN mentioned that Manchester United have identified Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos as a target for the winter transfer window. It has been claimed that the Red Devils have launched an enquiry about the Portuguese striker’s availability this January.
Ramos’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football This Season
Ramos is enjoying a fine campaign at Benfica as he has managed to put in a series of productive displays for Benfica in the final third. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net 14 times and grabbed six assists in 21 matches for the Portuguese club this season across various competitions.
The Olhao-born talent has managed to shine in the opposition half by averaging 3.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 75.4% in the Portuguese first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Benfica is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Man United to lure him away to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.
Is Ramos A Good Choice For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Ramos knows how to find the back of the net consistently in Portuguese football. He can also engineer some decent chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. The Portugal international is quite intelligent with his runs in and around the opponent’s penalty box but is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland.
Still, there is no denying that Ramos is a promising young striker who has got the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. We can expect the Portuguese talent to add more goals to Erik ten Hag‘s frontline at Old Trafford.
Plus, Ramos is good enough to serve as an ideal successor to Cristiano Ronaldo who left Man United recently. At 21, the Benfica forward will only get better in the coming seasons and could help the Red Devils fight for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
