Jose Mourinho wants Anthony Martial to follow the path of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian was initially struggling to adapt at Manchester United after his much hyped transfer from Borussia Dortmund. He had to wait a long time before Mourinho gave him a chance to prove his potential.
Mkhitaryan has been phenomenal since his return and also scored a spectacular ‘Scorpion Kick’ against Sunderland in the last match.
Martial, on the other hand, has failed to reproduce last season’s form. The 21-year-old has started in seven games this season and has scored only on one occasion. He has been linked with a number of clubs including Sevilla who had reportedly made contact with his representatives over a potential transfer for the youngster but Mourinho will block any move for the French international.
The 53-year-old gaffer said, “Anthony is very, very young. People forget that and last season Manchester United played completely differently. He was basically playing up front.
“The team had lots of passive ball possession, just waiting to put it into space for Anthony to go and score a goal. This season is more difficult. He needs a little bit of time to improve.
“Mkhitaryan was completely open and understood the difference between me and other coaches he had.
“And he worked a lot without playing, but he worked a lot to try to reach the level.”
