In a recent print edition, Sport claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund talent Youssoufa Moukoko. It is understood that the Blues are willing to cough up in excess of €10m as they try to beat Barcelona in the race to sign the German forward.
Moukoko’s Decent Numbers At Signal Iduna Park
The 18-year-old has produced a series of impressive displays for Dortmund in the final third during this campaign and has firmly established himself as a key member of their squad. Moukoko has registered six goals and six assists in 14 league matches for the German outfit this season on all fronts.
The gifted teenager has caught the eye at times on the attacking end of the field by averaging 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he has sometimes been guilty of giving away possession cheaply when linking up play with his teammates up top, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 71.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Moukoko is under contract at Signal Iduna Park until the end of this campaign which makes him an affordable option for the Blues to pursue when the transfer window commences at the start of next month.
Should Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter Get Moukoko On Board?
Moukoko is a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can also create some promising opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net. He can create space for himself to get a few shots in at goal and can be quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box. However, the German whizkid has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to taste success at the highest level.
At the moment, Moukoko is enjoying his football at Signal Iduna Park. Hence, Chelsea can expect him to play an important role in Graham Potter‘s squad if they manage to land him on the cheap next year.
We can expect Moukoko to add more firepower to the West London club‘s attack. He could even serve as an ideal, long-term replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has failed to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge thus far.
At 18, Moukoko has the potential to become a future star in European football, so Potter would be wise to get him on board for a cut-price fee during the winter transfer window.
