According to recent reports, West Ham United are being heavily linked to Luizao of Sao Paulo whose contract is set to expire in January. However, according to Football.London the Hammers might not hold a firm interest in the 20-year-old currently but the outlet believes a potential move might be possible once the January transfer window opens as he could come aboard for free.
Luizao’s Rise In Brazlian Football
The defender joined the South American club back in 2017 and rose through the ranks in the following period before finally making his first-team debut earlier this year. Luizao has made 19 first-team appearances for Sao Paulo in his debut season, scoring once during the 2022 campaign across all fronts.
The Brazilian talent has also played once in the Copa do Brasil last season, featuring as a late substitute during the round of 16 second-leg clash against Palmeiras. However, that is the extent of his endeavours in South America so far which does not make him a priority target at the moment.
Should Moyes Bring Him To West Ham United?
Luizao has only racked up nineteen first-team appearances so far which makes him pretty inexperienced for high-level football such as that of the Premier League. However, he has plenty of experience playing in cross-continental competitions and could provide cover for the defensive positions for West Ham in competitions like the Europa League and the recent Europa Conference League.
The Hammers could bring him to London Stadium for the long term as at 20 he has a lot of room for development and needs time to perform as per the standards of the English first division. If the West Ham chiefs happen to show interest in the youngster it would be an ideal move for them as he could come on a free transfer and his arrival would certainly add more depth to the squad.
However, focusing on the future comes only after they’ve solved their current problems which lie both in the attacking and defensive departments. So David Moyes would be wise in bringing in decent reinforcements to the squad before looking at future prospects.
Moreover, with Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson being linked to an exit from the London Stadium, it is only natural for the West Ham boss to bring in an experienced defender to replace them.
