In a recent report, The Daily Mirror mentioned that Manchester United have rekindled their interest in Napoli talent Kim Min-Jae. It is understood that the Red Devils have renewed their interest in acquiring the services of the South Korea international.
Min-Jae’s Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
Min-Jae has proven his worth as a reliable performer at the centre of Napoli’s backline after putting in a few dominant displays for them during this campaign. The 26-year-old had made 23 appearances for both his club and country this season, scoring two goals in all competitions.
The gifted centre-back has been enjoying a fine campaign based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.9 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 89.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Min-Jae’s current contract at the Naples club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it would be difficult for Man United to sign him on the cheap next summer. Still, they should consider launching a big move for the South Korean defensive ace if they are serious about strengthening their defence.
Is Min-Jae A Decent Choice For Manchester United?
Min-Jae is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.
The South Korea international is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. He has recently enjoyed an impressive 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament with South Korea in Qatar which could raise his value even further next year.
Hence, Min-Jae would be a good fit for Erik ten Hag’s style of play at Old Trafford and could serve as a slight upgrade over Harry Maguire, who has lost his first-team privileges at the Mancunian club this season.
All in all, Min-Jae will be an excellent choice for the Red Devils to consider this winter or at the end of this campaign as he will no doubt increase competition for places within Erik ten Hag‘s match-day squad. He might even help the Mancunian giants compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
