Arsene Wenger hits out at Chelsea for their loan policy. Chelsea right now have 30 players out on loan at various clubs.
Chelsea are currently topping the Premier League table with 46 points having won their last 12 matches. Chelsea have signed Marcos Alonso, David Luiz, Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante in the summer window. Except Batshuayi the remaining three players have been quite regular in the starting lineup. Conte is ready to undergo a squad overhaul in January as he is eyeing a few more players to strengthen his squad.
Nathan Ake and Juan Cuadrado are the notables among the loanees who are playing quite well with their respective clubs. Ake has been loaned to Bournemouth while Cuadrado is plying his trade in Serie A with Juventus.
Wenger said, “It is one of the big problems in the modern game.
“You’ve invested a lot of money into players because we’re paying more and more money, and then at the age of 20 you don’t usually get much money for any of the players, so the reflex is to stockpile the players. That’s not right.
“When you look at the number of loans that happen here and there, the whole system has to be thought about again because we have two kinds of solution in there.
“The first is to continue developing players, the second step is just to make sure your investment is safe – that’s not the right way to think about it but it’s the natural reflex for the clubs.”
