Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has hinted that he could sign a new contract to commit his future to the club. Giroud’s current contract is set to expire in 2018.
The Frenchman hasn’t got many chances this season as he was battling injuries. Also, Alexis Sanchez’s introduction as a centre forward saw his stock going downwards. Sanchez has been brilliant in his new position and has scored 14 goals this season.
Giroud has rescued Arsenal a number of times in this season by netting late goals after coming off the bench. He was also on target against Manchester United as the Gunners salvaged a point.
Arsene Wenger had earlier urged the striker to sign a new contract. With Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez on the verge of return, Wenger now has a lot of attacking option at his disposal.
Giroud said, ““People have been saying I have signed a new contract. It is not true but maybe soon.
“I came back a bit late from the Euros and it was nice for my body because I could rest but not good for me because the team was doing well and another striker was doing well up front.
“As long as the team is getting better I am happy and I am part of the club for five years and I want to carry on. But we have to see, I need more time of games but we will see in the future.”
