Arsene Wenger has made it clear that no player has the guarantee for a sure shot place in the starting lineup. Giroud has had very limited appearances this season as Wenger preferred to start Alexis Sanchez in the centre-forward role.
With both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out with injury, Wenger gave a rare start to Giroud against West Brom. The French man didn’t disappoint at all as he broke the deadlock in 86th minutes when he met a Mesut Ozil cross with a looping header.
Giroud has appeared in a total 11 matches this season and 10 of them has come as a substitute. He also scored the all-important equaliser against Manchester United after coming off the bench.
Wenger said, “We are not in an administration here.
“We are in a competition. You do not have ‘your place’, like a seat that you buy with a season ticket.
“We are competing and I think if I have only one striker, everybody says ‘What are you doing, you have only one striker?!’ So you need two or three strikers and we have Welbeck coming back so most of the time I will have to make the decision considering the opponent we play.
“Like today, I knew it would be deep and that in the air could be a solution. So I have to make the right decisions.”
