In a recent segment on substack, journalist Simon Jones claimed that Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is on the radar of Chelsea. Jones said,
“His contract situation is an interesting one, and he has been unsettled since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival.
“I’m told Chelsea are still keeping an eye on the situation still now, even after Tuchel’s departure.”
Rashford’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Rashford is having a decent campaign at Old Trafford as he has managed to put in a handful of influential displays while acting as the spearhead of Erik ten Hag’s attack. The 25-year-old has banged in eight goals and secured three assists in 19 matches for Man United this season across all competitions.
The Manchester-born talent has given a good account of himself in the final third. He has performed well to average 2.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been tidy with his link-up play in and around the opponent’s penalty box, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 75.7% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Move In For Rashford?
Rashford is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can strike the ball well from all ranges. The English attacker remains a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field. Rashford is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-sided winger or as a striker down the middle if needed.
We can expect Rashford to bring more pace and goals to Graham Potter‘s frontline at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are in dire need of a new number nine, so the English sensation will be an excellent option for the West London club to consider this January or at the end of this campaign.
Rashford would no doubt be an upgrade over Armando Broja and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as both Chelsea strikers have struggled to be consistent with their productivity this season. The Man United forward has got the experience and skill set to be a success story at Stamford Bridge and is also having a good World Cup after scoring for England versus Iran recently. With all things considered, Potter would be wise to move in for the England international next year as he is good enough to play regularly for them in the coming seasons.
