In a recent report, Sport revealed that Real Madrid have identified AC Milan star Rafael Leao as a January target. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eager to strengthen their squad by recruiting the Portuguese winger.
Leao’s Impressive Run Of Form At Milan
Leao has made a decent start to this campaign as he has put in a handful of impressive performances for the Milan giants on the attacking end of the pitch. The 23-year-old has done well to register seven goals and nine assists in 20 matches for AC Milan this season across multiple competitions.
The Portuguese sensation has given a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He has even been tidy with his link-up play up top after completing 79.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at San Siro will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Los Blancos might have a good chance of recruiting Leao on the cheap next year.
What Will Leao Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Team?
Leao has got the pace to trouble the opposition defenders out on the flanks. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Leao is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a central striker if his manager tells him to do so.
The Portuguese talent can even set up a handful of promising chances for others around him but it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Los Blancos can successfully get him on board this January or at the end of this season.
We can expect Leao to add more goals and creativity to Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline and could offer some serious competition for Vinicius Junior at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
At the moment, Leao is playing at a high level and could go on to become a real fan-favorite at the Madrid club. He is good enough to help Ancelotti’s side compete for some major trophies over the next few years. Therefore, Real Madrid should think about going all out to lure him to Spain during this January transfer window.
