Tottenham Hotspur entertained Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to earn a win in front of their home fans. Spurs made a poor start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 11th minute when Mohamed Salah found the back of the net with an excellent finish. Salah doubled Liverpool’s advantage after pouncing on a defensive mistake from Eric Dier with a cool run and finish. The North London club were trailing 2-0 at half-time.
Antonio Conte’s men produced a much-improved display in the second half and got themselves back in the game in the 70th minute when Harry Kane got his name on the scoresheet with a brilliant finish. However, Liverpool hung on to their tiny advantage as Spurs crashed to a narrow 2-1 loss at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player fared during the contest against the Reds.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10
The French keeper made a few solid saves at the back but couldn’t do much about either of Salah’s sublime finishes.
RB: Emerson Royal – 5/10
He was chasing the game for most of the contest and produced an underwhelming display going forward. Emerson also looked vulnerable defensively, especially in the first half.
CB: Eric Dier – 5/10
The English centre-back had a tough first half as he struggled to cope with Liverpool’s counter-attacks. His mistake led to Salah’s second goal which left Spurs with a mountain to climb in the second half.
CB: Clement Lenglet – 6/10
The French defender was a strong presence in the air and was tidy with his passing.
CB: Ben Davies – 6/10
Davies gave away the ball cheaply at times but produced a solid display on the defensive third of the field.
LB: Ryan Sessegnon – 6.5/10
His late runs caused a few problems for the opposition defenders. However, Sessegnon lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur – 7.5/10
Rodrigo chased the game in the first half but produced a far better performance in the second. He ran the show at the centre of the park after the half-time break.
CM: Yves Bissouma – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well but lacked quality in the final third.
CM: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 6.5/10
Hojbjerg earned the ball back a few times but struggled to influence the game in the final third.
ST: Harry Kane – 7/10
The English centre-forward struggled to threaten the Liverpool goal early in the game. However, he was a real menace in the second 45 minutes and scored with a great finish in the 70th minute.
ST: Ivan Perisic – 7.5/10
Perisic made a handful of decent chances for others around him but failed to register a goal today.
Substitutes:
CAM: Dejan Kulusevski – 7/10
Kulusevski made an instant impact off the bench and picked up an assist for setting up Kane’s goal.
RM: Matt Doherty – 6/10
He was tidy with his passing.
ST: Lucas Moura – N/A
He didn’t get enough time to influence the game.
