In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ed Aarons reckoned that Manchester United are showing interest in Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. When asked whether Man City are keeping tabs on the Ghana sensation, Aarons said,
“I really do actually, this guy’s very exciting. He was in Denmark until this season, and he moved to Rennes in the summer in a Danish record for the league for €20 million. And in France he’s doing very well as well, he’s a very exciting winger.”
Sulemana’s Decent Form In French Football This Season
The 20-year-old has made a decent start to this campaign as he has managed to catch the eye at times for Rennes in the final third. Sulemana has registered one goal and two assists in 14 matches for the French club this season in various competitions.
The 11-time Ghana international has made a real impact as a substitute based on his average of 0.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 86% of his attempted passes in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester United Boss Erik ten Hag Move In For Sulemana?
Sulemana can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He has shown great maturity to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the field. The Ghana talent can also strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to improve his all-around game in the hopes of becoming a world-class winger someday.
Sulemana is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a striker down the middle or as a right-winger if required.
At 20, the Rennes whizkid has got the potential to become a future star in European football, so Man United boss Erik ten Hag would be wise to move in for Sulemana next year.
We can expect Sulemana to bolster the Mancunian club‘s attacking options even further in the coming seasons. Plus, he might even help the Red Devils challenge for some major trophies over the next decade as long as ten Hag is willing to be patient with his progress at Old Trafford. However, only time will tell whether the Ghana prospect can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
