David Moyes’ plan of exacting revenge was foiled as from the first minute itself, Jose’s home side Manchester United sent out the waves of their intentions. United were looking to stretch their unbeaten run as well as their winning run and beating Sunderland would mean that they would have won 4 on the trot. United set the tempo in the first half itself and tried to penetrate but Sunderland held decently enough until Marcos Rojo burst through the centre as the match time neared 39 minutes. Rojo played in Zlatan, who held the ball up and passed it to Daley Blind who slotted in very clinically to open the scoring.
The second half was all about United from the very first minute as flicks, tricks and creativity knocked on Sunderland’s door time and time again and one could sense that the second for the home side wasn’t far away. Soon the goal did indeed come but through an error from as Ndong passed the ball straight to Pogba who picked it up and rammed ahead, played Zlatan in and the Swede kept his composure to churn out yet another goal.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was introduced for Jesse Lingard in the early stages of the second half and that change proved to be a good one as the Armenian scored an absolute wonder goal after Zlatan crossed in from the right. Mkhitaryan was offside but Old Trafford will certainly take the goal with open hands.
The Best And The Worst Manchester United Players Rated From Their Win Vs Sunderland.
1) GK: David De Gea – 6/10
Yet another day where the Spanish goalkeeper was untested. He could only watch a sublime finish from Borini which destroyed his clean sheet.
2) RB: Antonio Valencia – 7/10
Pacey and dominant yet again as the Ecuadorian did his bit well. He has surely established himself as an integral part of the team.
3) CB: Phil Jones – 7/10
His reading ability hardly gets any credit and another composed performance without any sign of an injury. It’s been a brilliant finish to the year for Jones!
4) CB: Marcos Rojo – 6.5/10
Tested on several occasions and had to deal with the physical aspect but came out successfully. Yet another calm display from Rojo.
5) LB: Daley Blind – 6/10
Had a poor first half in the primary role until he ran ahead and finished beautifully across the goal. Decent display.
