But they revived their domestic form with an emphatic 6-1 win against Hibernian. The Hoops travelled to Fir Park tonight for the Scottish League Cup quarter-final fixture versus Motherwell and despite a slow start, the fixture ended 4-0 in favour of the defending champions.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their 4-0 win against Motherwell.
Benjamin Siegrist: 7
Ange Postecoglou once again relied on the Hoops’ ‘number 2’ after last round’s victory against Ross County. It was a quiet outing overall for the Swiss custodian as he made some routine saves en route to clinching his first clean sheet in Celtic colours.
Josip Juranovic: 7.5
Returned to action down the right and enjoyed his minutes with a balanced approach between defence and attack. Linked up well with Liel Abada while making marauding runs and whipping in crosses from the flank.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 8
Another power-packed performance from the USMNT international. showed his physical and aerial supremacy; also exhibited his mastery in terms of playing it out from the back.
Moritz Jenz: 7.5
Was in the right place at the right time while partnering Carter-Vickers in the heart of the backline. Impressed with his passing expertise, no-nonsense clearances and recoveries except for a few nervy occasions.
Greg Taylor: 8
Replaced Alexandro Bernabei down the left and made a significant contribution to Abada’s late first-half strike. Linked up well with Haksabanovic before setting it up for the young Israel international with sheer perfection.
Matt O’Riley: 7.5
Worked hard in midfield. Spread the game all over the pitch with his vision and technicality. Was replaced by Oliver Abildgaard with half an hour remaining.
Reo Hatate: 8.5
Left an impact in the centre of the pitch with his pace, swift moves and box-to-box run. Showed great control before finding the net to make it 3-0 around the hour mark. Created a few chances, particularly for fellow countryman Kyogo Furuhashi high up the pitch. Was replaced by another compatriot Daizen Maeda with around 20 minutes remaining.
Aaron Mooy: 7.5
Still searching for his maiden Celtic goal. The Aussie veteran came close to finding the net but was denied by Liam Kelly in the Motherwell goal. Was replaced by James McCarthy in the second half.
Liel Abada: 9.5
It was a simple tap-in for the attacker who kept his composure while converting Taylor’s square pass. Looked lively down the right-hand flank as he scored again to double the lead early into the second half. Set it up for Hatate, and also played his part in Kyogo’s late goal.
Sead Haksabanovic: 7.5
Played his part in the build-up of Abada’s goal. Posed a constant threat from the left with his flair and finesse. Made way for Giorgos Giakoumakis for the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 8
Had an exquisite effort denied by the woodwork early into this fixture. But he made it on the scoresheet in the closing minutes from an extremely close range after Abada’s strike bounced off the inside of the post.

Another impressive cameo from the summer signing as he showed his strength and physicality deep down the midfield.

Slowly rebuilding momentum as a sporadic option.

A good few minutes for the versatile Japanese attacker in and around the attacking third.

Played too little to warrant a rating.
