In a recent report, Calciomercatoweb mentioned that Manchester City are eyeing a move for AC Milan star Rafael Leao. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian giants would have to pay at least €100m to acquire the services of the Portuguese winger.
Leao’s Impressive Run Of Form At San Siro This Season
Leao has made a decent start to this campaign as he has already produced a run of influential displays for Milan in the final third. The 23-year-old has registered four goals and eight assists in 13 matches for the Italian club this season in all competitions.
The former Sporting youth player has been an unstoppable force in the opponent’s half based on his average of 3.9 shots, 2.0 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 80.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Leao’s current contract at San Siro is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Unless he decides to pen a new deal, Man City would fancy their chances of landing him on the cheap next summer when the player will have just a year left in his current deal at Milan.
What Will Rafael Leao Add To Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola’s Team?
Leao has got decent pace under his belt and can complete a few dangerous dribbles out on the flanks. He has got the vision to set up a few inviting chances for others around him inside the opponent’s penalty box. Leao is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a centre-forward if his manager asks him to do so.
The Portuguese talent can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He usually contributes by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Leao to add some firepower to Pep Guardiola’s attack and increase competition for places within his Man City squad. The Portugal international is good enough to rival Jack Grealish for a regular starting spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Leao has got his best years ahead of him and is well-equipped to help the Mancunian club win even more trophies over the next decade. Thus, Guardiola should consider going all out to secure his services in January or at the end of this campaign.
