Manchester United will clash heads with Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, hoping to pick up a positive result and secure all three points at home. The Red Devils will be coming into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over Omonia in the Europa League match-up. The Magpies are just one point short of Man United who sit in the fifth position, so this is an important fixture for both sides.
Erik Ten Hag will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Eriksen looks likely to replace Fred in this home encounter. Cristiano Ronaldo will continue in the striker position up top as he leads the charge against the opposition.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted XI Vs Newcastle United
Defence
David de Gea is expected to operate in between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Spanish shot-stopper would look to put up a strong performance and secure another clean sheet on Sunday.
Victor Lindelof will drop to the bench as Raphael Varane is expected to start at the heart of United’s backline, with Lisandro Martinez slotting into the right-centre back position. Diogo Dalot should start at the right-back position, whereas Luke Shaw will replace Tyrell Malacia to fill in on the other flank as the left-back.
Midfield
Casemiro is expected to continue in the holding midfield position alongside Christian Eriksen who will get the nod over Fred whereas Bruno Fernandes will slot in as the attacking midfielder as he remains a guaranteed starter. The Red Devils will be highly dependent on the Portugal international’s creative work if they wish to pick up a win on Sunday.
Fred will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the second half of the contest if needed.
Attack
Marcus Rashford and Antony will take up the wide positions, looking to provide support from the left and right wing, respectively.
As mentioned earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead the line for Manchester United at the weekend. The prolific striker will be fancying his chances to find the back of the net and get his name on the scoresheet.
Anthony Martial could be brought off the bench as an impact substitute in the second forty-five minutes of the match.
