Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he regrets letting Joe Allen join Stoke City. But he also added that selling him at that time was not a wrong decision.
Liverpool sold the 26-year-old midfielder to the Potters in the summer transfer window for a sum of £13 m. The Welsh international has since then emerged as a key figure under manager Mark Hughes as the latter deployed him to a far more attacking role in the midfield.
The midfielder has so far thrived at his new club as he already has scored five goals and registered two assists.
Allen will be returning to Anfield when Liverpool will host Stoke City on Tuesday.
Klopp said, “Do we miss Joe Allen? Yes. Nice guy. Unbelievable, strong player. It was a common decision. It was clear after the last two years, not being a fixed line-up player.
“He plays a little more offensive now than what he would for us. If Liverpool FC sells a player, then they have to have a real impact at their next club. If you leave us, okay, then show us what you’ve learned.”
