Tottenham Hotspur have splashed out massive money on the likes of Yves Bissouma and Richarlison in the summer transfer window. Still, surprisingly the one to earn a regular place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI is Ivan Perisic who came to North London for free. The decision to bring him to Tottenham was questioned by many but adding the Croatian to the squad turned out to be a masterstroke from the Italian tactician according to Football.London.
Perisic’s Run Of Form For Tottenham Hotspur
Perisic took a spot on the bench for the first two Premier League games only coming on to the pitch in the second half to put in impressive displays. These amazing performances have made him a regular, with only nine games this season. He has managed to produce four beautiful assists from the wide areas so far and there are many more to come.
The Croatia international has performed consistently since his first start for the Lilywhites coming into the third fixture after averaging 1.6 key passes, 2.0 crosses and 1.4 tackles per game in the English first division. He has been decent with his ball distribution after completing 76% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Smart Decision From Conte To Bring Him In?
Antonio Conte had previously worked with the Croatian in Inter Milan, so the Italian tactician knew what Perisic could bring to the squad. The ex-Inter Milan midfielder excels at delivering some decent crosses from the wide areas and can keep the ball to distribute possession. His 1.86-meter tall frame helps him dominate his opponents in the air and he doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle.
At 33, Perisic has proven that he can still play at a high level and with his recent performances, he could certainly become a key man in Conte’s playing XI. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can virtually play anywhere on the final third or the central areas of the field. This versatility remains a huge factor in why Conte has brought him to North London.
The Lilywhites’ decision to sign him has been a brilliant move so far and it could only prove to be better if he continues with his recent run of form.
