West Ham United have had a disappointing start to their campaign as they find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League table. They have only won a single match out of six fixtures, defeating Aston Villa to a scoreline of 1-0. Despite spending over £160 million in the transfer market to bring in reinforcements, the East London club sits in the relegation spots along with Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.
Growing Concerns For West Ham United
The Hammers need to reinvent themselves and David Moyes needs to act quickly if he doesn’t want to risk the fans turning. Former Premier League and West Ham defender Nigel Winterburn when asked about the pressing matter had a lot to say as he was disappointed by the poor performances of the club.
“West Ham have bought players in, and I’m surprised at their poor start, but it can happen to teams,” he told Paddy Power. “You must get your shape and formation right, but you also have to have that belief.
“When you don’t win games, players lose confidence and it’s so difficult to get it back. David Moyes will need to earn his money now because he’s done a terrific job at West Ham, but he has to galvanise this squad and get them going again. If they get to 10 games in and they’re still struggling, the West Ham fans might get a bit nervy.
“He has done an incredible job, and now he just has to get them moving in the right direction.” as mentioned in Football.London
What Should Be The Play For David Moyes?
Bringing in new players could pose a significant difficulty as they adapt to a different play style and a different league. English football is undoubtedly very demanding but the others who’ve remained at the club for a long time need to perform consistently.
Declan Rice has seen a poor run of form as he takes his place in the England national team entering the international break currently. The defenders have felt laboured and lacked motivation while the forwards have failed to capitalise on finding the back of the net when the chances have been provided in front of the goal. Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca have not been productive in the final third.
There is not enough goal threat from the Hammers, they lack creativity in the central areas of the pitch and they’ve also failed to keep a clean sheet, meaning they’re poor defensively and so Moyes needs to make the necessary tweaks in the formation and hopefully direct the club towards a better direction if they wish to bounce back from this disaster. The international break would provide enough time for the tactician to come up with a solution for the team and hopefully do better over the coming fixtures to move up the table.
