Borussia Dortmund locked horns with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to earn a good result on the road in the UEFA Champions League. The German club made a solid start to the game and managed to get into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Jude Bellingham gave Dortmund the lead in the 56th minute which was canceled out by John Stones’ excellent equaliser in the 80th minute. Erling Haaland came back to haunt his old club as he scored the winner with an acrobatic finish just four minutes later. The German club ended up crashing to a 2-1 defeat on their travels.
Let’s take a look at how each Borussia Dortmund player performed during the match against Man City.
GK: Alexander Meyer – 6/10
Meyer probably should have done better to stop Stones’ goal. He didn’t have much to do in the game and won’t be happy after conceding two goals late in the game.
RB: Thomas Meunier – 7/10
He had to do a lot of defending but mostly stood up to the test. Meunier made one good run with the ball as well.
CB: Niklas Sule – 7/10
Sule earned the ball back twice and cleared his lines when needed. He coped with Haaland’s threat quite well for most of the game.
CB: Matt Hummels – 6.5/10
Hummels was mostly solid on the defensive end of the field but should have probably passed the ball a bit better.
LB: Raphaël Guerreiro – 6.5/10
He did his fair share of defending and engineered two decent chances in the opponent’s half.
CM: Jude Bellingham – 7/10
Bellingham made a few important clearances and scored the opening goal of the game as well.
CM: Emre Can – 6/10
He made a few solid tackles but offered very little in the Man City half.
CM: Salih Özcan – 7/10
Ozcan earned the ball back a few times and was bright in the final third.
RW: Giovanni Reyna – 6/10
He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game and was substituted in the 61st minute.
ST: Anthony Modeste – 6.5/10
Modeste won a few aerial duels but never looked like he would score.
LW: Marco Reus – 7/10
He made a few decent runs with the ball and picked up an assist for setting up Bellingham’s goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Donyell Malen – 6/10
Malen hardly had a sniff at goal.
CB: Nico Schlotterbeck – 6.5/10
He earned the ball back twice.
ST: Karim Adeyemi – N/A
Adeyemi didn’t get enough time to influence the game.
ST: Youssoufa Moukoko – N/A
He was Dortmund’s last throw of the dice.
