Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that they have the necessary reinforcements to cope without Sadio Mane. Mane will be leaving in January to take part in the AFCON.
Since arriving from Southampton in a £30m deal, the African has been on fire for the Reds. The winger is currently Liverpool’s highest scorer this season with eight goals in his tally and also scored the all-important winning goal against Everton.
Mane will join his Senegal team-mates after playing the Sunderland match on January 2. He will miss a string of crucial matches including Manchester United and depending on his country’s progress he could also miss the match against Chelsea.
Klopp said, “In winter, if you don’t have the biggest injury issues in the world and you need players to build a lineup, then you should only do things you would do in the summer too.
“First of all I’m really happy with the squad.
“Of course, in this moment Phil isn’t involved, from the beginning of January, Sadio isn’t involved. We can do things, change systems.
“Especially with Sadio we knew before it’s part of the deal, we get this outstanding player who unfortunately won’t be involved in January.
“We’re already looking for summer, and maybe we can bring these two windows together, do the right thing in the right moment. If not, we will not do it.”
