Aston Villa clash with West Ham United as they welcome them to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, hoping to clinch all three points. The Villans come into the match on the back of an astounding 4-1 win against Bolton Wanderers in the second round of the EFL cup. However, they have only managed to win one of their last three Premier League fixtures as they conceded a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Steven Gerrard is expected to utilise the 4-3-1-2 formation with Phillipe Coutinho playing in an advanced midfield attacking role behind the two-man strike team.
4-3-1-2 Aston Villa Predicted Line Up Vs West Ham United
Defence
Emiliano Martinez will function in between the sticks for the Villans as he looks to keep a clean sheet in this home encounter. Ezri Konsa could partner up with Tyrone Mings at the heart of Aston Villa’s backline as they look to produce a solid display against the Hammers.
Matty Cash could fill in at right-back while Lucas Digne looks to impress on the opposite flank as the left-back. Both of them would be expected to get forward in the final third and track back on defence.
Calum Chambers will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-half positions.
Midfield
The midfield trio will include John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara and Douglas Luiz at the centre of the park. All three of them would need to be precise with their ball distribution and aware of their surroundings to win back possession on defence.
Phillipe Coutinho will play as a centre-attacking midfielder tasked with creating enough chances for the two-man strike team. He will be allowed to roam the attacking third, looking to make some decisive passes in front of the goal.
Jacob Ramsey would take a spot on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Danny Ings will form a striking partnership with Ollie Watkins as both of them will need to fancy their chances of finding the back of the net if Gerrard’s side stands a chance to win against the East London club.
